What is Breast Reconstruction?
Breast reconstruction surgery is a procedure that restores the shape and size of the breasts after mastectomy, lumpectomy, or to correct congenital breast abnormalities. Breast reconstruction can help improve body image, self-confidence, and quality of life. There are two common procedures, breast reconstruction with implants and the TRAM Flap breast reconstruction method. The type of breast reconstruction depends on several factors, such as the patient’s anatomy, medical history, and other individual preferences.
Frequently Asked Questions
Most patients report minimal discomfort following the procedure, however some may experience mild to moderate pain that can be managed with prescribed pain medications. Some patients also experience swelling and soreness in the chest area which usually subsides within a few days of surgery. Your doctor will provide you with specific instructions on how to manage any post-operative pain.
The length of the procedure depends on several factors, such as the type of reconstruction being performed and the patient’s individual anatomy. On average, a typical breast reconstruction with implants can take 2-4 hours to complete. TRAM Flap procedures typically take longer, usually 4-8 hours.
Breast reconstruction with implants involves placing a breast implant directly onto the chest wall to recreate the shape of a breast. The TRAM Flap is a technique that uses tissue from other areas of the body, such as the abdomen or lower back, to reconstruct the breasts. With this method, fat, skin, and blood vessels are taken from the donor site and used to create a "flap" that can be used to cover the chest wall. The TRAM Flap procedure is often recommended for women who have lost significant amounts of breast tissue, as it allows for more natural-looking results.

I wanted to leave a review because I have had two separate surgeries with Dr. Grace and he is absolutely amazing and professional. I had a breast reduction about a year ago and a tummy tuck 3 weeks ago. His entire staff including his nurse Tracy, the receptionist Meghan and the coordinator Allison are all extremely helpful . I would not go to anyone else for cosmetic surgery. I would attach my pics, but I am still in recovery mode. If I can I will post it up in a few months. Either way Dr. Grace is #1 in my book if you are wanting to have cosmetic surgery. Amazing from start to finish 🙂
