Remove Excess Fat and Skin for Better Tone and Shape

Does the sagging skin of your upper arm make you feel self-conscious? Fluctuations in weight, growing older and heredity can cause your upper arms to have a drooping, sagging appearance. This is a condition that cannot be corrected through exercise, but we can help.

An arm lift, or brachioplasty is a surgical procedure that can:

  • Reduce excess sagging skin
  • Define the shape of the upper arm
  • Minimize localized pockets of fat in the upper arm

What is Brachioplasty?

A brachioplasty, also known as an arm lift, is a surgical procedure to remove excess skin and soft tissue, as well as fat from the upper arm, defining the shape and contours of your arms.  During the procedure, you will be placed under general anesthesia. Areas of your arm will be marked out where the incisions will be. Incisions are generally placed on the inside of the arm or on the back of the arm and may extend from the underarm to just above the elbow. Excess fat may be directly excised or treated with liposuction. Then, underlying supportive tissue is tightened and reshaped with internal sutures. Finally, the skin is smoothed over the new contour of your arm.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much can brachioplasty reduce arm skin sag?

The amount of skin reduction achieved with brachioplasty will depend on the individual patient’s anatomy and desired outcome. Generally, most patients can expect to see a significant improvement in the contour of their arms. It is important to have realistic expectations before undergoing this type of procedure. Additionally, lifestyle changes such as regular exercise and maintaining a healthy weight can help to maximize the results of brachioplasty.

How long will the results last?

The results of brachioplasty surgery are typically permanent; however, it is important to keep in mind that with age, gravity, and weight fluctuations, the upper arms may still change shape over time.

What is the recovery process like?

After brachioplasty surgery, patients may experience some pain and swelling in the treated area. To help manage these symptoms, doctors will prescribe medications and recommend rest for at least a few days. Strenuous activities should be avoided for several weeks after surgery to ensure proper healing. Additionally, compression garments may need to be worn for several weeks post-surgery to minimize swelling and maintain the shape of the arms.
